Contemporary Sculpture Gallery
of Tomas Fernandez
The inspiration for Fernandez'
contemporary garden sculpture grew out
of his Ethereous Horse scultpures. Many
of his collectors were requesting smaller
kinetic yard sculpture in the Ethereous
style, so Fernandez developed a series of
metal animal sculptures, full of life and
movement. These delightful animals
appear to be forming from the wind, light,
and leaves. Many versions of these
bronze sculptures are in collections
worldwide, adding their delightful
movements to both private and public
gardens.

This bronze eagle, formed by the very air that gives him movement, is captured in mid flight as he approaches a landing.

The "Freedom's Gallop,"
pictured here is steel with a
white painted finish. These wire
horse sculptures in steel and
bronze, including foals and other
poses, have found homes in
locations all over the U.S,
including Reagan's presidential
library...

Camouflage is a gift that is captured in this kinetic garden sculpture as the bronze Bobcat blends with the movement of his woodland grove.

Silver Fox is a rare Ethereous sculpture that was retained by Fernandez for his private collection. His first prototype for this series of metal animal sculptures, was followed by many commissions for this fox in varying poses in steel and bronze.

Contemporary wall sculptures,
like this bronze goose are a
dramatic way to change a large
empty wall into a dramatic focal
point in your home or garden.
These wall sculptures touch on
the ethereous style, but have
evolved into a style all their own
and have been featured on
stone, brick, stucco, and
wooden walls with great success.

Heaven and Earth
This dramatic sculpture, standing
naked before God was built in 1984.
Only now, is the sculptor ready to
release him. The time must be right,
with his intended home made ready.
Doug Adams, the author of
Transcendence with the Human Body
in Art, a professor of Christianity and
the Arts in Berkley, CA, said of this
work; "Sharing faith is like a concave
space which invites the viewer to enter.
In contrast, sharing beliefs is like a
convex space which may leave no
space for the viewer. ..Orthodox
Christian theology is characterized by
via negativa, the negative way, so as to
avoid detailing beliefs which too often
lead to a static certainty rather than a
dynamic faith open to the movement of
the Spirit."
Church Teachers, Volume 21, Sept 1993
"Fernandez says "this style of
depicting this salutatory man
compliments my intent of having the
person filled by the very object of his
reach. Another pleasing benefit of this
style is the viewers seeing through to
each other."
Heaven and Earth is a one of a kind
Fernandez sculpture that has deep
personal meaning to the sculptor and
has gained international exposure.
This work is a rare find for the
contemporary art collector.

garden sculpture, Saint
Francis, built for Mother
Theresa's Missionaries of
Charity...
Saint Francis of Assisi forged bronze in the Fernandez ethereous style private prayer garden of Missionaries of Charity
|
This work was the first human figure to
be entirely rendered by Fernandez in
his ethereous style. Even the dove
landing in Saint Francis' hand is
rendered in bronze with an ethereous
nature.
This bronze garden sculpture was
commissioned by a client as a gift for
Mother Theresa's Missionaries of
Charity in Washington DC.
Sr. M. Pietra, M.C. Superior said of the
sculpture, "St. Francis and his garden
are very beautiful and draw people to
prayer and contemplation. The
sculpture is your gift of peace that
keeps on giving"...
"a big, big thank you for all of the
people whose souls you have touched.
May Our Good Lord continue to bless
your art that it may always reflect His
goodness in His creation."
This is the calling of the "sculptor of light",
Tomas Fernandez.
