Inspiration and evolution of an extra-ordinary candle design...
Fernandez's inspiration to sculpt candles grew out of a series of
circumstances. Following a major injury to all the muscles in his right arm,
Fernandez faced a two year recovery time. A friend asked Tomas if he
could do something special with the leftover wax from the church's blessed
candles. Sculpting the candles gave Fernandez a sense of peace and hope
that he desired to share with others who were suffering.

Fernandez began to receive
letters from many people who
had been touched by his
story. He also was given the
gift of more blessed wax, even
from churches out of state. It
was not uncommon to be
surprised by visitors who had
made tremendous journeys to
see the candles and hand
deliver more blessed wax.

Being a sculptor of light, Tomas was not satisfied
with his original designs in the sense that he felt
driven to take them beyond ordinary candles into
a unique work of art and contemplation. He
hollowed out the center of the candles and
placed a small votive within. The effect was
beautiful, but the heat of the flame stressed the
exterior of the candle over time.

Fernandez was not ready to give up. He was
on to something exciting, new, and in his true
style of working with light and negative space
to become part of the whole work.

The result is stunning, but very time intensive. Fernandez was
determined to pursue a candle in this style that would be more in reach
for the budget of the average family. He felt strongly that these candles
were a unique way to enhance quiet meditation and prayer in the home.
He desires to share the peace and joy that came to him through the
creative process and the love and generosity of all the people that cared
enough to reach out and connect with this unique project.
